Tell us what you think
There was an interesting talk at the House of Commons a couple of weeks ago - the Jubilee Debt Campaign's progress report on debt cancellation 10 years on. They invited economic experts from Zambia, Jamaica and the UK, including Sarah Williams, whom some of you may remember from the screening of Life and Debt.
A Zambian parliamentarian was also there to thank those present for their campaigning efforts on behalf of his country. That campaigning led to the Zambian Government saving around $40million - that's $40m to be invested in schools, teachers, nurses, antiretroviral drugs and reducing poverty for the people of Zambia.
It's so easy to think sometimes that the little we do - fill in a postcard here, send an email petition there - can never have any real impact. That one simple statement was a humbling, inspiring reminder that every little helps.
It also reminded me of our closing film - Life Support - when Queen Latifa said to the gay prostitue -"I don't have any money but I do have this" (handing him some condoms). That, in turn, reminded me of a story in the New Testament when Peter approached a beggar outside the Temple Gate - for those of you who would like to read it: http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=acts%203;&version=78;
