SARAH WILLIAMS

Sarah Williams works for Jubilee Debt Campaign, which calls for the cancellation of unpayable and unjust poor country debt.

Sarah is Senior Policy and Campaigns Officer for Jubilee Debt Campaign, where she co-ordinates campaigning activities for the cancellation of unpayable and unjust poor country debt. Jubilee Debt Campaign is a coalition of around 200 national organisations and local groups, and runs regular campaigns as well as collaborating on campaigns with member organisations and other networks in the sector. Her work involves lobbying at the national and international level; keeping up with policy developments in the debt and wider finance for development field; producing reports and briefings; and liaising with colleagues across the global debt movement.

Prior to this Sarah worked with Anti-Slavery International, leading their campaigning activities, most recently around the 200th anniversary of the abolition of the slave trade. She organised the annual Anti-Slavery Award, presented in recognition of grassroots activism against slavery, and carried out national and international advocacy including co-ordinating Anti-Slavery’s work at the UN and International Labour Organisation.

Sarah has also worked for a number of campaigning, social justice charities, as well as more directly in politics, for a Member of Parliament, and has a range of overseas experience, principally in South and South East Asia.

Sarah holds an MSc in Global Politics, which included a thesis looking at what mainstream global justice campaigns can learn from the Pan African reparations movement, and has a BA (Hons) in Social and Political Sciences.
