The Jubilee Debt Campaign will be running a 2 hour workshop on tackling the debt burdens of poor countries.
The financial crisis has had a massive impact on the UK economy, with the credit crunch, collapse of well known companies, widespread recession and job losses.
But developing countries have been counting the cost of reckless lending for decades. Many poor countries still pay out more in debt service - to rich countries, institutions like the World Bank, and private companies - than they can afford to spend on basic services like health and education.
Many of these debts arose from irresponsible lending by the West, yet it is the poorest who bear the consequences. And the current global economic crisis is making matters worse.
This session will consider the factors behind the debt crisis in the developing world and look at what needs to be done to end the unpayable and unjust debt burden to help countries free themselves from poverty.
