About the Name Ndinadsawapanga

Our name Ndinadsawapanga pronounced Nah jah pang ga means ‘I will tell’. It comes from the Senna language, spoken in the northern provinces of Mozambique.

The film festival was inspired in part by the people of the small village of Thoera. Our festival director, Jenny Lee, visited it while on a small mission and met a spirited, courageous people, facing extreme hardship. Their desire for their story to be known, gave her the idea of setting up a film festival that could tell, not only the story of Thoera but also of many other people who need to be heard.

The films we choose to show, raise awareness of global and local issues alike: from poverty and hunger, to violence, disenfranchisement and racism. In short they tell us things we need to know and ought to take action on.

Part of the proceeds from the festival will go towards helping people in need and will help us to continue telling their stories, as well as those of many more people like them.
